Design Solutions

Filtering Search Results

Goal
Increase traffic and awareness of specific pages on the site.

Solution
Improve site-wide search experience.

Old design
The user had the option to filter using several dropdown menus. Each menu contained a very large list of options. Analytics data showed that very few users were using these filters.

New design
Through research of other sites with extensive search capabilities, I found that a simple design is more effective because it is less overwhelming for the users. Tabs drive awareness to specific topics and help narrow the search.

Insights Feed Video Card

Goal
Promote videos within article feed.

Solution
New video card for the insights feed. This card includes a video that can be played within the feed instead of navigating to another page.

Solution within feed

Edge Case
In some cases a video can be viewed within the article. This was previously indicated with a play button in the bottom right corner. With the new card design however, it was difficult to differentiate between these two scenarios.

To solve this issue, we changed the icon from a play button to a video camera.

Auto Translate Indicator

Goal
Indicate to users when content has been automatically translated to another language.

Solution 1
Dismissible callout when user first enters the website that indicates the site is auto-translated and points them to where they can change the language if they would like.

Solution 2
An non-intrusive sticky banner on specific pages that have been auto-translated. Includes the same globe icon as on the language selector menu to tie the two elements together.
